In the Classroom

I am so excited to be your second grade teacher this year!

Growing up as the oldest of four, I was constantly attempting to teach my siblings anything and everything from how to read a book to how to make the perfect potion in the backyard. I have had the desire and passion to teach and learn as much as I could put my hands on from the age of 5, and it was at this age that I knew I was called to become a teacher. I am fortunate to have an incredibly supportive family who along with my husband are ready to help with classroom setups, teaching art lessons, and getting elbows deep into the messiest of science experiments.

I am a recent Georgia transfer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and although I am a dedicated Saints fan, I have enjoyed getting to explore this great state and all that it has to offer. It is my love of learning and craving new knowledge alongside my students that motivate me to seek for the absolute best and nothing less for them. I am excited to be able to have the opportunity to do this in a new setting where there is plenty for me to learn.

Teaching is my passion and through that has come a love of professional development and involvement. I am extremely dedicated not only to my students, but my school as well. In my short three years of teaching, I was involved in numerous national associations as well as state and local. I helped plan and manage a science sleepover where students came to stargaze, create catapults, master art projects, and so much more all while excitedly learning science and math concepts. I was also a member of a small commitee of teachers who were passionate about the summer reading regression with a focus on how to stop it. We won a Gates Grant to support our efforts and successfully developed a summer reading program that after the success of the first year, doubled in participation this past summer. We held a summer book fair to raise additional funds and raised over $10,000 through Scholastic. I was also tasked with developing an economics curriculum based off of the work a colleague and I did in our classrooms through the classroom economy. This unit is being used by 17 second grade classrooms at Rollins Place Elementary. I look forward to continuing this work in my new school setting.
