What We're Learning:
Reading:
We will continue to develop our strengths as readers this week by looking at retelling. We will use the 5 finger retelling strategy to help make sure we don't leave out any details. We will review how this is a strategy that goes beyond just retelling to a teacher, but can be to tell a friend to get them excited about a book you're reading. Or maybe you need to retell what happened in a chapter book to yourself to remind you of where you are the next day. Retelling is a super important skill! Be sure to look at your child's seesaw account this week for some retelling. Maybe they'll inspire you to check out the book they're reading!

Writing/Grammar:
In grammar, we will look at amazing adjectives! This is one of our favorite grammar skills as there is so much we can do to describe the world around us! We will venture on adjective hunts and work to use them to describe events, people, and places. We will work on using revising our personal narratives by learning of the add symbol ^. We will head back into old writing samples and see what adjectives we can use to paint a picture for our audience.
In spelling our sort patterns will be based on the short a and long a sound.
Math 2.1:
We are getting closer to our first unit test. This week we will begin reviewing by looking at mixed addition and subtraction word problems adding and subtracting units of tens. We will continue to use CUBES to help identify the words to help us determine which to use! We will also look back at bar graphs and picture graphs with a deeper look at analyzing the data within. We will also connect our studies in science by reading and analyzing table charts.

Math 2.2:
We're still working to strengthen our skills as subtraction masters. We are focusing on subtracting across multiple zeros and using a variety of strategies. We will work to connect subtraction to real world equations by reviewing money based problems.
Math 3.1:
This week we will work to use the CUBES strategy to help us solve multiplication and division word problems. We will work to identify key words to determine which operation to use. We will continue to use strategies to strengthen our fluency with facts such as the distributive and commutative property along with using the inverse operation and fact families. We will continue to review and apply these skills as we prepare our review.

Science!
We are so excited to start our first science unit! We will begin by taking a look at what a scientist is. Who are some famous scientists? How can we practice safe science? And what exactly is the scientific method?
