This week we are so excited to study one of 2nd grades class favorites with Mo Willems! Elephant and Piggy books are constantly found throughout our rooms, so we're excited to learn where it all began with our main texts staring Trixie and Knuffle Bunny!
Main text: Knuffle Bunny, Knuffle Bunny Too, Knuffle Bunny Free
Week's Theme:
Characters in multiple books can grow and change.
Literacy Skill Focus Standard:
RL 2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
RL 2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.

English Language Arts :

Mentor Sentence: This week we will be reading the book The Day the Crayons Quit. We will be learning about plural nouns and how to form them.
Phonics: This week we are studying the long and short o words. All of this week's spelling words have the double oo in them. Short o words this week are look, foot, book, cookies, hook, and woods. Long o words this week are root, moon, boot, hoop, room, and tooth.
Math
Math 2.1
We will continue to review addition and subtraction with regrouping. We will also be reviewing coins and adding/subtracting with them.

Math 2.2
We will continue working on subtraction, and we will also use the CUBES strategy to solve word problems. We will also be reviewing for our math unit test.

Math 3.1
We will be learning about fraction vocabulary. Students will also be partitioning different shapes.

Social Studies
Students will start researching their person for the Living Museum project.
