What We're Learning:

Reading:

We will continue to work on multiple strategies to enhance our comprehension and understanding of stories. We are working to retell in a Goldilocks format, meaning not too many details, but also enough to tell us what the story is about!

Writing/Grammar:

In grammar, we will continue to look at comparing incomplete vs complete sentences. We will be looking at how to complete those that aren't with our descriptive words.

There is no spelling this week.

Math 2.1:

We are continuing our journey into addition strategies by strengthening our fluency with single digit strategies. We've covered counting on, illustrating, finger counting, and number line counting. Last week we dove into strengthening our number sense with a look at making ten to help us solve problems such as 9+7 or 8+6. This week we will look at the patterns we can find with our doubles facts. We will use this knowledge to help increase our fluency learning near doubles (ex. If I know 5+5=10, I can use that to help me solve 5+6 as one more, so 11!)

Math 2.2:

We are getting ready for our first unit test! We are reviewing all of our skills from unit 4 including:

adding and subtracting with and without regrouping

inverse opperation

CUBES and word problems

money

the commutative property

We can't wait to see all you have to show us you've learned!

Math 3.1:

We are continuing to explore rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s. We will expand on this a bit by using it as an estimation tool to determine if our addition and subtraction answers are reasonable or not. We will look at large real world problems such as how Mr. Vance might order trophies and rewards for Runapalooza!

Science!

We are so excited to be practicing scientists! We are learning in depth about the molecules that help us classify our solids, liquids, and gasses. This week we are looking at how all matter takes up space including gasses! We will also look at how matter can change states!
