What We're Learning:
Reading:
This week it is allll about nonfiction! We are so excited to identify some nonfiction text features and explore what makes them different from our fiction stories we have been focused on.

Writing/Grammar:
In grammar, we will continue to look at sentences with a deeper look at types of sentences. We will expand our vocabulary with the various types, but will mainly be looking at how we can include these different types of sentences in our writing! We will be working on our worst "ouch" story!
Spelling will focus on the tricky short vs. long U sounds.
Math 2.1:
We are continuing our journey into addition strategies by exploring new strategies in two digit addition WITHOUT regrouping. This means we aren't "carrying" yet. We will explore the traditional up and down method which we will quickly find makes the most sense this week! However, with regoruping next week, we find challenges. Applying different strategies here might help us make more sense of that traditional method we all learned as kids.
This week we will explore:
Number line addition (with skip counting)

Base Ten Blocks and Base Ten Drawings

And Expanded Form Addition

Math 2.2:
We are learning all about polygons this week as we work on exploring geometry. We will look at plane shapes and identify sides, vertices, and angles. We will expand our vocabulary by discussing deeper geometric concepts!
Math 3.1:
We are reviewing just how addition and subtraction are related by using the inverse to check our math. We are working on regrouping across multiple zeros and will look for ways to challenge our thinking. We will also review line plots this week and begin our study guide. This unit is a review unit to ensure we have the skills needed to expand our thinking in future units. We will plan for our test to take place next Thursday (10/26)
Social Studies
This week we are shifting our focus back to social studies with a look at map skills. We will explore our world through Google Earth and atlas explorations. We will look at our community and even create maps of our own based on places we are familiar with. We will look at the cardinal directions as well as map keys to help us create the best map we can!
