What We're Learning:
Reading:
This week we are continuing to learn all about nonfiction! We are so excited to identify some nonfiction text features and explore what makes them different from our fiction stories we have been focused on. We are realizing it can be difficult to memorize the facts, but that we can learn so much from our texts! Explore your text features with this scavenger hunt!

Writing/Grammar:
In grammar, we will continue to look at sentences with a look at creating compound sentences out of simple sentences. We will learn about conjunctions and how they can link our sentences together to develop our writing further. We will be working to publish our "OUCH!" stories this week.
Spelling will focus on short vs. long E sounds.
Math 2.1:
We are continuing our journey into addition strategies by exploring new strategies in two digit addition WITH regrouping. We will know that the traditional up and down method quickly solves problems for us as adults, however, with regoruping, we find challenges as our students begin to explore the properties of numbers. They don't know the vocabulary yet of regrouping and carrying. These can be complex and so we will apply different strategies here to help us make more sense of that traditional method we all learned as kids. We will find concrete models to help us understand the complex "carrying then ten" words.
This week we will continue to explore with regrouping:
Number line addition (with skip counting)

Base Ten Blocks and Base Ten Drawings

And Expanded Form Addition

Math 2.2:
We will be working with partitioning this week as we explore basic fractions. We will look into fractions of a set as well as fractions of a whole as we explore the differences in partitioning rectangles vs circles.
Math 3.1:
With TAG and rehearsal, we are a couple of days behind on our review. We will spend this week reviewing addition, subtraction, regrouping, and rounding. We will look at word problems and strategies to determine key information. We will plan to have our test Monday 10/30.
Social Studies
We are learning all about our lovely home state of Georgia this week! We will look to identify Georgia on a map and begin learning about the different regions and what truly makes Georgia so special. We will connect our learning to the founders of Georgia that we learned about during our musical performance!
