Things to Do:

-Please ensure your children are working on their paragraph of the week daily. It is designed to be broken up into key components to help create a well written, well thought out paragraph. Work with your child to self edit (break out the red pens, they love using them!) and how to enhance the details of their paragraph!

-Look out for our Living Museum details coming home Tuesday! Students will need to select a famous figure to study for our incredible biography project. Help them select their top 3 and turn in Friday, Feb 2. These figures must not be someone we have studied as part of our GA history unit.

What We're Learning:

Reading

We are continuing our connection to our learning in social studies as we study biographies this week. We will compare the difference between biographies and autobiographies as we work in book clubs to organize facts. We will look at how to determine what information is important and what information we really need to hold on to.

Writing/Grammar

We will be looking at plural nouns this week in particular when to follow all the rules.. when is it just s? When is it an es? What about that y to ies and f to ves rule too? So many to determine!

In writing we will focus on creating a biography on another classmate! We will look at how to create a well thought out biography that shares all of the important details without simply stating and listing facts.

Math 2.1

In the past we have looked at how addition and subtraction are related by using fact families. We've applied that with our larger numbers by looking at how they are still related using the inverse operation to check! We've learned that the inverse operation simply means the opposite. So instead of beginning at the top, we start our new problem at the bottom with our sum. We then subtract the next number moving up our problem. Once we've finished subtracting, we should end up with the very top number of our previous problem. We have been using siri to triple check and your mathematicians are blowing it out of the park!

This week we will continue this method, but using addition to check our subtraction problems. We will work with subtraction where regrouping is required in 3 digit problems. This gets especially tricky over our zeros, so later on in the week ask your mathematicians to show you their magic!

Math 2.2

It's all about division this week! We are introducing division by looking at equal groups. We will start with our quotient and use lots of modeling and pictures to help us determine our answer.

Math 3.1

We are taking a deeper look at fractions this week as we integrate it with measurement! We will use our understanding to help us measure even more accurately. We will then apply this understanding of reading our rulers to the nearest quarter inch to then reading a number line with fractions.

Science/SS

We are so very excited to begin our studies for our biography presentation with our living museum! More information to come Tuesday in weekly papers, so stay tuned!
