Georgia Milestones Testing (not 2nd grade)
Things to Do:
-Although our 2nd graders won't be partaking in the Georgia Milestones, outside visitors of any kind will not be allowed during the testing window. This includes lunch visitors. If you are unsure if testing has been completed, please call the school to verify you can visit.
-Our classroom iPads were picked up in order to be used during testing. This means students have less time to complete their iRead and iReady practice at school. Please ensure that they are practicing on this program, especially on the weeks it is assigned as homework.
What We're Learning:
Reading
This week we will continue taking a look at how characters change throughout our reading. What experiences cause them to change? Do you like the change that they've experienced? Sometimes our characters change multiple times throughout our book. Hold some of these discussions with your learners through the books you're reading together or after they finish their independent reading.

Writing/Grammar
In grammar this week we will take a look at irregular verbs as they change from present to past tense. We will focus on using them correctly in our speaking patterns before applying them to our writing.
We will take a writer's choice week looking at the genres we've worked with this year including persuasive, narrative, fantasy, fables, and informative writing. Which is your favorite to read? Which is your favorite to write?
Math 2.1
We are excited to jump into the world of polygons, quadrilaterals, vertices, and more with our introduction into GEOMETRY! As 2nd graders we will look at classifying these shapes in a variety of ways and will learn some vocabulary to help us do just that. We will look at 2D, or plane, shapes all around us.
Math 2.2
We will be continuing to explore patterns in our multiplication tables with a look at input/ output tables this week. These are also known as function tables and require some detective skills! Can you decipher the clues to determine the pattern or rule?
Math 3.1
We will be reviewing telling time to the nearest minute with AM and PM this week. We will look at telling time through the ages with sundials, roman numerals, and more! Then onto elapsed time!
Science/SS
We are entering our final, but most expansive unit: BIODIVERSITY, or all things life! We are excited to dive into botany, zoology, life cycles and more!
