What We're Learning:

Reading:

As readers this week we are continuing to explore and learn from non- fiction texts. This week our readers will practice identifying the main topic of a text and the author’s purpose

Our theme this week is about making smart choices with our money is an important life skill. We will reconnect this to our class economics by making a budget as we plan for rent and learn about savings accounts with interest!

ELA:

Mentor Sentences: We will continue our studies of possessive nouns exploring possessive plurals. We will deepen our understanding using examples from our mentor text Skippyjon Jones.

Phonics: Three letter Blends- scr, shr, scr, squ, thr, spr, spl, str

examples: splat, spring, screwdriver, throw

Writing: We will continue to create our own escape plan with vivid details so our readers can follow exactly and escape with ease! Our readers will test out our writing by following the directions to see if one of our class robots will escape without looking at the map!

Math 2.1:

We will continue our journey into two digit addition strategies. This week we will work on increasing to two digit numbers with some regrouping. We will review strategies using expanded form addition, place value block adding, and model adding. We will explore the traditional method of regrouping, but will not expect our learners to master this. It is important we understand the foundations before this abstract method, so we will push them as we see they are ready! Encourage them to teach you about our place value charts and how we can draw our models to show regrouping!

Math 2.2:

This week we are heavily reviewing our critical unit! We are ensuring we have a strong foundation of adding and subtracting with regrouping through numbers up to 1,000. We are also applying this knowledge by adding up to 4 two digit numbers, identifying and adding coins together, and solving word problems identifying key words and missing numbers. Be sure to review your study guide together!

Math 3.1:

This week we are continuing to practice our foundational skills of multiplication and division by organizing our data in equal groups and arrays. We are searching for real world examples and will

be focused on identifying facts that are causing us difficulty. We will learn about the distributive property and how we can use that to help us speed up the process! So while I may not have 4 X 7 memorized, I know I can solve 4 X 5 easily and 4 X 2... combine them together and you've solved 4 X 7!

Social Studies:

This week we will continue our focus on landforms, specifically in Georgia. Thanks to our independent research, we found out Georgia has a volcano!! Not to worry.. It's dormant! ;)

We will continue this student led exploration and explore these landforms on a map as we work to develop some map skills. We will look at them right here on our Georgia map!

Click the map above to access an incredible site to do some more research and identifying!
