What We're Learning:
Reading:

As readers this week we are continuing to explore and learn from non- fiction texts. This week our readers will practice identifying collecting facts from various books on the same topic. We will compare and contrast the information we find as we study more about bats this week!
Our theme this week is about how animals have unique traits.
ELA:

Mentor Sentences: We will focus on contractions this week in both our mentor text and phonics this week. We will read the popular book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
Phonics: Contractions
examples: he'd, I'm, aren't, it's, won't
Writing: We will finalize our writing this week as our readers will test out our detailed directions to see if one of our class robots will escape without looking at the map!
We will also work on concluding our nonfiction writing as we write an information piece of writing on bats!
Math 2.1:
We will continue to deepen our two digit addition strategies focusing on place value charts and base ten blocks to help us create our concrete models to demonstrate the abstract ideas of regrouping. We will explore the traditional method of regrouping, but will not expect our learners to master this at this time.
Math 2.2:
We are ready to begin our next unit. This is always a favorite: Geometry! We will deepen our background knowledge of shapes by looking at and comparing their attributes such as sides and angles. We will look at deeper vocabulary to classify them such as quadrilaterals, polygons, and more!
Math 3.1:

This week we will continue to explore the distributive property and how we can use that to help us speed up the process! So while I may not have 4 X 7 memorized, I know I can solve 4 X 5 easily and 4 X 2... combine them together and you've solved 4 X 7! We will work on using this to help us solve word problems involving multiplication.
Science:
This week we are beginning a favorite unit: matter! We will explore properties that make up all matter including solids, liquids, and gasses. We will take a look at the molecular composition to help us decipher this seemingly simple task. We will love exploring with this hands on unit! If you have any supplies you think we can use, please feel free to reach out! We will need extra paper towels, cups, clorox wipes, baking soda, oil, and food dye among others! We appreciate your support.
