Welcome back from the long weekend! We do hope your families had a great long weekend. We have a fun exciting week coming up in second grade. Check out what will be going on this week.

-September 4th: Globetrotter Passport Check 8:00 AM - 12:00

-September 5th- English Learners Book Club

Things to Do:

-Please make sure to check your child's folder nightly! Homework calendar has started! Please check your students binder for all information.

What We're Learning:

Reading:

Weeks Theme: It's important to be yourself.

Literacy skill Focus: RL2.2 Key ideas and details: Recount stories and determine their central message , lesson, or moral.

Essential Question:

How can we use details in a story to determine the central message?

How can the point of view change depending on the character.

ELA:

Mentor Sentences: We will work with Memoirs of a Goldfish as we study proper vs. common nouns.

Phonics: Long A and Long e

Writing: We will work to create our own memoirs in the diary setting of our read aloud.

Math 2.1We are continuing our work deepening our understanding of place value. We will start by reviewing our skip counting skills then comparing numbers while in different forms.

Math 2.2:

This week we are learning a variety of strategies to to solve 3 digit addition problems without regrouping. We will work with regrouping as challenge is needed.

Math 3.1:

This week we are reviewing our addition and subtraction skills with and without regrouping. We will be working with at minimum 3 digits and will increase these as challenge is needed. We will also be working on using the inverse operation to check our work and our consistency with subtraction and addition interchangeably.

Social Studies:

We are finalizing our social studies unit on economics and personal finance. We will expand our concepts to cover scarcity and opportunity cost. We will also look at producers and consumers through a fun assembly line activity! We can't wait to share all we've learned about being responsible with our money.
