Things to Do:
Use the additional resources provided to help further practice and challenge with your kids. The Epic calendar does not need to be used with Epic. Simply read a book on that topic or do a google search using kid friendly websites like kiddle or kid rex!
Please label all jackets, hats, etc with your child's name. Our lost and found is already growing!
What We're Learning:
Reading:

As readers this week we are continuing to explore and learn from non- fiction texts. This week our readers will practice using text features to locate important facts and information as well using information from the text to caption pictures!
Essential Questions:
How do changes in vibration create change in the sounds we hear?
How does vibration affect the sounds we hear?
How can readers use text features to locate facts and information?
Key Vocab:
*Decibel: the unit for measuring how loud a sound is
*Echo: a sound caused by sound waves bouncing back from a surface to the listener
*Echolocation: a way of using echoes to find where objects are located; used by animals such as dolphins and bats
*Sonar: a way of using echolocation to find where objects are located on the water or underwater
*Sound wave: a special kind of invisible wave that is created when something is vibrating
*Vibration: when something moves back and forth very quickly
ELA:

Mentor Sentences: We will study possessive nouns and recap our proper nouns. We will deepen our understanding using our mentor text Scaredy Squirrel.
Phonics: three letter blends:
sprint, square, throb, strum, shrimp, scrape, splat, squid, throne, strike, shred, scrub
Writing: We will work to create our own escape plan with vivid details so our reader's can follow exactly and escape with ease!
Math 2.1:
We will continue our journey into addition strategies. This week we will work on increasing to two digit numbers. We will review strategies including using a 100's chart, number line, number bonds (to separate our tens and our ones clearly), and expanded form adding. We take it day by day to help our learners understand numbers and how we can break them apart to make problems easier to solve before we introduce the traditional algorithm. Ask your learner to teach you a new strategy and check in on Seesaw to see what they're up to!
Essential Questions:
How can you use a hundreds chart to help you solve addition problems?
How can you use a number line to help you count forward with tens and ones?
How can you break a number apart into expanded form to help you solve addition problems?
How can you use base ten blocks to help you solve addition problems?
Math 2.2:
We are expanding our knowledge of shapes to include partitioning this week. We will look at various shapes and learn how to partition them evenly as we prepare to enter fractions and arrays soon.
Essential Questions:
What does it mean to partition a shape?
How can I partition _____ shape into 3 equal parts? 4?
When partitioning a rectangle, how can I partition using rows and columns?
Math 3.1:
This week we will use our understanding of the inverse property of multiplication to work with some division style problems. We will look at some complex problems including variables! A variable simply allows us to practice missing number problems as a deeper mathematician.
Essential Questions:
What does division mean?
What is a variable? How can I solve for one?
How can I use the inverse operation to help me solve for missing numbers?
What are key words in solving division problems?
Social Studies:
This week we will focus on map skills! We will look at things such as legends, compasses, directions, and really have fun exploring google earth to see the diverse maps of the world.
