What We're Learning:
Reading:

As readers this week we are concluding our first unit of non- fiction texts. This week our readers will practice using text features to locate important facts and information as well using information from the text to caption pictures! We will use details from the text/s to explain how bats are unique. We will also compare and contrast bats from two different texts.
Essential Questions:
-What does the author tell us about bats that makes them unique? -Why do you think the author named this book Bat Loves the Night? -What is a detail you learned about bats that you didn’t know before? -Is it likely that we would see a bat flying around during the day? How do you know?
Key Vocab:
*Unfurl: to cause something that is folded to open up *Echolocation: determining the location of an object reflected by sound *Plunges: to fall or jump suddenly from a high place *Roost: a place where birds rest or sleep *Rafter: a large piece of wood that supports a roof *Nocturnal: active at night

Writing: We will work to research and collect facts on bats this week to create a formal informational writing sample!
Math 2.1
We will continue our work in solidifying our addition strategies with regrouping. This is what we refer to instead of "carrying" This terminology allows us to visually see what is going on rather than getting confused by it. This week we will work on converting our base ten blocks into base ten block drawings and as we are ready: the traditional algorithm. We will work on applying these strategies to word problems and real world solutions.
Essential Questions:
How can you use base ten blocks to help you solve addition problems?
How can you use a tens and oness chart to help you add?
What does it mean to regroup? How many ones do you need in order to regroup?
What are some key words when solving addition strategies?
Math 2.2:
We are preparing to finalize our geometry studies as we review for our test this week.
Essential Questions:
What does it mean to partition a shape?
How can I partition _____ shape into 3 equal parts? 4?
What is a quadrilateral?
How can I classify shapes based on attributes?
What are rows and columns?
What is a fraction and what do their parts mean?
Math 3.1:
This week we will combine all of our knowledge of multiplication and division as we review with word based problems. We will recap the distributive property as we work with tens and ones in our multiplication. We will look for key words to help us determine whether we are multiplying or dividing and coming up with our own problems to represent a fact. Please keep practicing facts at home to increase fluency and accuracy!
Essential Questions:
What is a variable? How can I solve for one?
How can I use the inverse operation to help me solve for missing numbers?
What are key words in solving multiplication and division problems?
How do I solve for a missing factor or divisor?
Science:
This week we are beginning a favorite unit: matter! We will explore properties that make up all matter including solids, liquids, and gasses. We will take a look at the molecular composition to help us decipher this seemingly simple task. We will love exploring with this hands on unit! If you have any supplies you think we can use, please feel free to reach out! We will need extra paper towels, cups, clorox wipes, baking soda, oil, and food dye among others! We appreciate your support.
