What We're Learning:
Reading

This week we will be reading Yard Sale by Eve Bunting.
Main text: Yard Sale
Week's Theme:
What can Eve Bunting teach us about the important things in life?
Literacy Skill Focus Standard:
RL 2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
R.L. 2.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson or moral.
Essential Question:
What message does the author want readers to learn from the text?
How do strong characters react when they face a challenge?
English/ Language Arts:

Mentor Sentence: This week we will be reading Duck for President. We will be reviewing the difference between a common and a proper noun.
Phonics: We will be working on the ew, ue, and the ui pattern.

Math
Math 2.1
We will continue to work on subtraction with regrouping. Students will use a variety of strategies to solve these problems.
Math 2.2
This week we are working on expanding our multi-digit addition and subtraction strategies. We will review our properties of addition to help with multi-step word problems. We will review the CUBES strategy to help us figure out what information is important in these word problems and what information is just trying to trick us.
Math 3.1
We will continue to work on our Geometry unit. Students will be able to identify the characteristics of different quadrilaterals. We will start partitioning these shapes as an introduction to fractions.
Social Studies:
We will continue to discuss famous Americans.
We will also discuss the difference between biographies and autobiographies. This will be a great introduction to our Living Museum project.
